Tempo by Hilton at NuLu Yard

710 East Jefferson Street, Louisville, KY 40202

The hotel got built and it looks like the drawings. What moved was the calendar. Three years passed between the announced opening and the real one, and the distinction the announcement led with went to other cities.

What changed

  • A March 2020 announcement described the planned Tempo by Hilton at 710 East Jefferson as the brand's intended first opening, with an expected opening by the 2021 Kentucky Derby.
  • The 130-room hotel is part of the larger NuLu Yard development with parking, food, fitness, co-working, and residential components; apartment totals reported for the broader development vary by phase and scope and are not used for this hotel comparison.
  • The hotel opened May 1, 2024, roughly three years after the abandoned 2020 target.
  • Hilton's May 2, 2024 release described the Louisville hotel as the brand's third U.S. property; it did not identify a three-city predecessor list.

Why it changed

No public explanation has been given.

What is on the record

No source reviewed gives an on-the-record reason for the gap between the 2020 announcement targeting 2021 and the May 2024 opening, or for the change in which market opened first. The 2020 announcement lands at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but no source ties this project's delay to it, so this site does not make that connection.
